The Mako Foundation partnered with mural artist Pezer97 to transform the Vista del Mar school walls with a vibrant creative mural in Southern California. This custom school mural turned the space into an inspiring environment through bold, artistic wall design.
School murals carry a different brief than commercial work. The artwork has to hold a young audience’s attention every day for years, and it has to be something a school is comfortable putting its name to.
Designing for a School Audience
The design brief for a campus is narrower than it looks. Color has to be energetic without being agitating, imagery has to stay appropriate and legible across a wide age range, and the finished wall has to survive daily contact with students. The composition here uses broad, confident shapes and a bright, saturated palette that reads clearly from across a corridor or yard.
Working with a foundation also means the piece is accountable to more than one audience — the funder, the school staff, and the students who use the space every day. The design was developed to satisfy all three: recognizably the work of a graffiti-trained muralist, and unmistakably built for a school.
