During the King of the Hammers race, the largest annual off-road event in the United States, Optima Batteries, one of the main event sponsors, commissioned Pezer97 to create a live painting mural during the opening weekend inside their VIP camp.
We designed and live-painted a custom visual inspired by the off-road racing culture and the energy of the event, creating a strong visual focal point for the Optima VIP area.
The live mural painting attracted significant attention from attendees, and the off-road community responded enthusiastically to the artwork. The activation was highly successful, generating engagement throughout the weekend and creating a memorable experience for guests.
Sponsor activations at a large event compete with everything else happening around them. Live painting holds attention differently, because the work is unfinished. It changes over the course of hours, and people come back to see how far it has moved.
Why Live Painting Works at an Event
Inside the Optima VIP camp the mural gave the space a center of gravity. Guests had a reason to stop, a place to gather, and something to photograph that belonged to that specific weekend and could not be replicated at any other setup on site.
The design pulled from off-road racing culture and the energy of the race itself, so it read as part of the event rather than as branding dropped into it. And unlike a printed backdrop, the finished piece remained afterward as a physical asset, alongside the photos and footage captured while it was being made.
